JCPS Students Create Impact: 3D Printing Braille Signs for Inclusive Classrooms

Students at Central High School in Louisville, Kentucky, have taken initiative to enhance accessibility within their school by creating 3D printed Braille signs for classrooms. This project emerged from a student’s personal experience; Joshua, who is blind, faced challenges navigating the school’s hallways after some Braille signs were removed during renovations.

Sharing his experience with Mr. Brown, a teacher in the Adaptive Manufacturing pathway, Joshua proposed that the class use their 3D printing skills to produce new Braille signs. This not only aims to assist visually impaired students like Joshua but also allows the adaptive manufacturing students to earn college credits while contributing to a more inclusive environment.

Through this effort, the students are making a positive impact on their peers and fostering a stronger sense of community within the school.
