Impossible Objects Secures $40 Million to Revolutionize Industrial-Scale 3D Printing

NORTHBROOK, Ill. — Impossible Objects, a company specializing in manufacturing technology, has successfully completed a $40 million Series B funding round to advance its Composite-Based Additive Manufacturing (CBAM) technology. This investment aims to address the increasing demand from customers seeking to scale 3D printing for industrial production. The funding was led by Inflection Equity, with additional contributions from Aaron Wealth Management, OCA Ventures, Impact Capital, and Excell Partners.

The CBAM 25 system allows for the rapid production of strong, lightweight composite parts, boasting speeds 15 times faster than conventional additive manufacturing technologies. Traditionally, 3D printing has not met the speed and material requirements for large-scale manufacturing, remaining primarily within the prototyping realm. However, CBAM is set to change that, allowing for high-speed production of composite materials like carbon fiber, previously reliant on methods such as CNC machining and injection molding.

“The fundamental shift we’re making is in how we manufacture,” said Robert Swartz, founder and chairman. He emphasized the long-standing vision of merging 3D printing’s flexibility with industrial-scale output. The latest funding will enable Impossible Objects to expand its reach and increase operational capacity.

Since the rollout of the CBAM 25, additional deployments are underway across various industries including aerospace, defense, and advanced manufacturing, with notable clients like the U.S. Air Force and the Oregon Manufacturing Innovation Center. An order from the U.S. Army Rock Island Arsenal can facilitate the production of up to 10,000 drone bodies each month.

Gintaras Vaisnys, managing partner at Inflection Equity, expressed enthusiasm for leading the funding round, noting the significant market demand for advanced manufacturing technologies that drive efficiency and flexibility.

In addition to commercial contracts, Impossible Objects has secured $20 million in U.S. government engagements, supporting various projects related to additively manufactured composites and drone applications. High-ranking military officials, like Stephen Farmen, a retired U.S. Army major general, have highlighted the necessity for innovative manufacturing technologies to keep pace with evolving defense needs.

Moving forward, the company intends to use the new financing to bolster production capabilities and enhance customer service support for its growing client base. “We’re committed to delivering high-quality manufacturing solutions that respond to contemporary requirements in supply chain flexibility,” said Steve Hoover, CEO of Impossible Objects.
