Jamco America and Airtech Team Up to Revolutionize 3D Printing Tool Recycling in Aerospace Industry

On August 26, 2024, Jamco America Inc., known for its expertise in aircraft interior solutions, declared a strategic alliance with Airtech Advanced Materials Group. This partnership aims to revolutionize aerospace manufacturing through an emphasis on recycling 3D printing tools which promises enhanced production speeds, diminished risks and costs, as well as lower environmental impact.

This collaboration with Airtech began in 2006, involving the provision of composite manufacturing consumables by Airtech to Jamco. In 2021, their cooperative efforts expanded to include large-format additive manufacturing (LFAM) tooling. Jamco’s main goal is to adopt LFAM for high-temperature applications to overcome the challenges posed by traditional composite layup tools. This innovation is anticipated to slash lead times significantly, alleviate supply chain setbacks, boost part performance, and reduce defect rates.

The LFAM molds are crafted using Airtech’s Dahltram I350CF thermoplastic resin, distinguished for being fully recyclable. Depending on the needs of the application, this resin can be processed into either a blended or 100% recycled formulation. Airtech is actively refining these formulations through continuous testing, aiming to meet the high demands of applications like aerospace tooling. This strategy of focusing on sustainable practices meets the burgeoning call for environmentally friendly manufacturing processes within the aerospace sector.

Through this partnership, Jamco and Airtech are poised to drive significant innovations in aerospace manufacturing. By improving product quality, reducing lead times, lowering production costs, and minimizing environmental impact, the partnership aims to create a more sustainable, cost-effective, and safe industry. The ongoing collaboration highlights the potential of 3D printing technology to change traditional manufacturing processes and pave the way for future advancements in aerospace tooling.

The collaboration between Jamco America and Airtech Advanced Materials Group exemplifies a forward-thinking approach to aerospace manufacturing. By embracing 3D printing tool recycling, the partnership enhances production efficiency and product quality while significantly contributing to sustainability within the industry. As Jamco and Airtech continue to innovate, their work is poised to set new standards for cost-effectiveness, safety, and environmental responsibility in aerospace manufacturing.
