Former Esports Commentator Creates a Custom Mouse Shell Generator for 3D Printing—No AI Required

Former CS:GO commentator and 3D-printing enthusiast Bastian Recha, known online as “Unskilledcast,” is developing Mausstudio, a tool that lets users design custom 3D-printed mouse shells around their own mouse circuit boards.

Recha shared a demonstration of the project on X. Users import an STL file of a mouse PCB, and Mausstudio identifies key features such as switch, sensor, scroll-wheel and screw-hole positions. It then generates a shell designed to fit those components, including openings and structures for the buttons and sensor.

The software allows users to adjust the mouse’s width, length and height, as well as the position of its raised “hump.” They can also add weight-reducing cutouts or choose a fully enclosed design. Another option is a customizable battery shelf, with dimensions and placement set to match the battery—a detail that, Recha notes, is often handled as an afterthought in custom mouse builds.

Mausstudio runs locally and uses mathematical algorithms rather than generative AI to create its geometry. Recha has since listed improvements to the project, including editing detected component assignments, expanded side-button controls, cleaner geometry and the ability to reuse shell designs with other PCBs.

There is no release date yet, and it is unclear whether the software will be free or paid. Support for split PCBs may also be a future consideration.

If the tool works as intended, it could help users try different mouse shapes using hardware they already own, without needing CAD expertise or having to buy several mice to find a comfortable fit.
