Elegoo Centauri Carbon: Is This the Next Big Leap in 3D Printing?

Elegoo has introduced the Centauri Carbon, its first Core-XY 3D printer, with pre-orders now available. This new machine is garnering significant attention due to its promise of high-speed and high-precision printing capabilities, all while maintaining a balanced price.

In an era where 3D printing continues to evolve, Elegoo aims to make this technology more accessible. The Centauri Carbon boasts a fully enclosed die-cast metal frame, a nozzle that can reach temperatures of 320°C, and a powerful 1000W AC heated bed, positioning it as a versatile tool for both amateurs and professionals.

According to Chris Hong, CEO of Elegoo, the Centauri Carbon is designed to push the boundaries of creativity in 3D printing. The printer can achieve impressive speeds of up to 500mm/s and an acceleration rate of 20,000mm/s². For example, it can print a custom smartphone stand in as little as 30 minutes.

One of its key features is its compatibility with various materials, from PLA and PETG to more complex filaments like ABS and carbon-fiber-infused options, thanks to the high-temperature capability and enclosed print chamber. The dual-sided magnetic build plate enhances print adhesion and ease of removal, while the heated bed can reach optimal temperatures quickly, shortening startup times.

Elegoo ensures the Centauri Carbon caters to users seeking a straightforward experience. The machine includes auto bed leveling and a user-friendly 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen for navigation. Connectivity options such as Wi-Fi and USB allow for flexible printing setups, while the built-in camera facilitates remote monitoring.

Notably, the printer supports open-source software, with its ElegooSlicer based on Orca Slicer, inviting developers to enhance the platform further. This feature, along with competitive pricing of €329.99, positions the Centauri Carbon as an appealing choice for makers looking for high performance without the traditional steep learning curve associated with 3D printing.

Long-term reliability remains a crucial question for potential buyers, but if the Centauri Carbon meets its promises, it could rival higher-end Core-XY printers in the market. Interested users can now place pre-orders for the Centauri Carbon here.
