U.S. Air Force Awards 3D Systems $9 Million Contract for Cutting-Edge Metal 3D Printing Technology

3D Systems has secured a $9 million contract extension from the U.S. Air Force for its ‘Large-Format Metal 3D Printer Advanced Technology Demonstrator’ program, known as GEN-II DMP-1000. This funding extends the program for an additional two years, continuing the company’s efforts to develop advanced metal 3D printing technologies suitable for high-temperature and flight-relevant applications.

The project began in 2023 and aims to advance 3D Systems’ capabilities in producing flight-critical components at scale. The work will continue at the company’s facilities in San Diego, California, and Rock Hill, South Carolina. With this contract, total project funding has risen to $27.4 million, demonstrating the Air Force’s trust in 3D Systems’ technology and development trajectory.

Dr. Michael Shepard, the Vice President of Aerospace & Defense at 3D Systems, expressed enthusiasm for the progress made and the opportunity to collaborate with additional partners as the platform evolves.
