Color Ink Takes the Leap: Exploring the World of 3D Printing

As a boutique printer located in Sussex, Wisconsin, Color Ink has made a foray into the realm of 3D printing using the Bambu Lab H2D. This initiative reflects the company’s aim to enhance its customization capabilities and offer clients distinctive, impactful solutions.

Todd Meissner, the president of Color Ink, emphasized that embracing 3D printing technology allows for new levels of creativity that were previously out of reach. The Bambu Lab H2D boasts the largest print area among desktop printers and features dual nozzles for precise and rapid printing, making it an excellent choice for their current needs. Meissner mentioned that if they opt for a larger commercial printer later, the H2D will serve as an effective prototyping tool.

The versatility of the Bambu printer enables Color Ink to work with various materials, broadening its application scope. With a temperature-controlled, filtered enclosure, they can print not just standard PLA and PETG, but also challenging materials like ABS and TPU, which can be used for robust applications like load-bearing parts.

Meissner pointed out that the new technology positions Color Ink to conduct actual production runs, rather than limiting their capabilities to prototyping. The company’s integration of 3D printing aligns with a more extensive business philosophy centered around customer-focused innovation. It empowers them to provide tailored projects that meet client specifications and set brands apart from competitors.

Now that the technology is in place, Color Ink faces the challenge of utilizing it effectively. As Meissner put it, finding the right equipment is just the start—success lies in having a skilled team to leverage the new technology.
