Gibson, who works for Remote Area Medical (RAM), a nonprofit organization providing free healthcare, including dental services, began volunteering there while completing his degree at a local community college.<\/p>\n
His journey started with a simple idea: to expedite the denture delivery process, which traditionally could take up to three months, often requiring multiple visits. Initially unfamiliar with dentistry and 3D printing, he took it upon himself to learn everything he could about both fields. "I made it my mission and studied like I was doing a test," he reflected.<\/p>\n
The breakthrough came with the development of RAM’s Mobile Digital Denture Lab. Gibson equipped it with cutting-edge 3D printers, allowing the organization to produce dentures on-site and deliver them to patients in just hours, rather than weeks or months. Gibson’s dedication has made a profound impact on both patients and the community. Although the organization has made great strides since its founding by Stan Brock in 1985, providing free healthcare valued at nearly $240 million, the need for services continues to outpace supply.<\/p>\n
Gibson’s work has not gone unnoticed. Featured in a CBS "60 Minutes" episode, his passion and innovation have attracted new volunteers and financial support for RAM.
