This initiative spearheads the development of a megawatt-scale modular generator system leveraging Hyliion\u2019s cutting-edge KARNO generator technology.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>The Phase 1 SBIR award, identified as N241-060, enables Hyliion to create an initial design of the KARNO generator specifically for naval use. This generator is capable of running on over twenty different types of fuels, including hydrogen, natural gas, propane, ammonia, and traditional fuels, making it a highly versatile option for powering the Navy\u2019s Unmanned Surface Vessels (USV).<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>The design strategy involves the scalability of Hyliion\u2019s 200 kW KARNO genset, through the integration of multiple units to achieve the required power capacity. This configuration offers great flexibility and adaptability, ensuring the system meets varied power demands and fits within different platform constraints.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Thomas Healy, the founder and CEO of Hyliion, shared his excitement about their latest project, stating, &#8220;We are honored to secure this SBIR contract from the United States Navy. This contract recognizes the anticipated capability of the KARNO generator to provide efficient, flexible, and maintenance-minimal power production. We are eager to support the Navy&#8217;s objectives and pursue more robust power options for their USV effort.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The primary objective of the N241-060 initiative is to develop a megawatt-scale generator that adheres to the demanding specifications of the Navy. The planned generator is expected to be modular, comprising smaller kW-scale units organized into a compact assembly aimed at achieving a 4,000-hour maintenance-free operation period, guaranteeing uninterrupted, dependable functioning in tough naval conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond its Navy collaboration, Hyliion has also signed a non-binding Letter of Intent with Flexnode, a company specializing in high-density digital infrastructure. As part of this agreement, Hyliion will provide Flexnode with up to ten KARNO generators, offering a total of 2 MW in capacity, with the first deliveries projected for 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Flexnode is dedicated to advancing digital infrastructure, especially in areas like artificial intelligence and machine learning. Incorporating Hyliion&#8217;s versatile, fuel-agnostic KARNO generators, Flexnode plans to furnish its data centers with reliable, eco-friendly power. This partnership will enable Flexnode to scale its infrastructure in sync with demand, enhancing edge computing performance where low latency is critical.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Flexnode co-founder and CEO, Andrew Lindsey, underscored the importance of their recent collaboration, noting, &#8220;Availability, carbon intensity, and energy costs are pivotal elements presently constraining the expansion and setup of data centers.
