This facility will focus on additive manufacturing to produce industrial-grade parts for the Navy.<\/p>\n<p>Alex Benham, the initiative&#8217;s director and general manager, announced that the factory will initially operate at around 8,000 square feet and will house industrial 3D printers for both metals and plastics. It will also feature capabilities for metallurgical testing and reverse engineering of hard-to-find parts. The operation is expected to create approximately 80 jobs over six years, contributing to local workforce training and economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>The primary aim of this initiative is to enhance the Navy&#8217;s logistical capabilities by enabling quicker production and maintenance of parts locally rather than relying on lengthy supply chains from the mainland or Hawaii. Benham highlighted that frequent demand for replacement parts due to wear and tear from harsh marine conditions necessitates these local manufacturing capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to military applications, the GAMMA initiative will focus on educating and training local residents in manufacturing and mechanical engineering fields, thus fostering a sustainable workforce. Companies in various sectors, including marine, aviation, and automotive, are expressing interest in the new manufacturing base due to its benefits over traditional production methods.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, the factory&#8217;s capabilities will open doors for civilian use, allowing local businesses to have unique, specialized parts manufactured quickly and efficiently.
