Unleash Your Creativity: Explore 3D Printing Classes at Cranberry Library

CRANBERRY TWP — The Cranberry Public Library is embracing the power of creativity with its 3D printing classes, offering residents a chance to explore the latest in design technology. Over the past six years, The Forge Makerspace, a dedicated area within the library equipped with various technological tools, has provided classes tailored to all skill levels.

Craig Stevenson, a retired engineer and volunteer educator, led a class on Tinkercad, a user-friendly 3D design software from Autodesk. With three years of personal experience in 3D printing, Stevenson is enthusiastic about introducing others to this innovative technology. His personal creations range from practical tools to decorative items, highlighting the versatility of 3D printing.

“The program primarily targets beginners, but it opens a pathway for individuals looking to learn new skills,” Stevenson said. He emphasized the importance of engaging young children in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education through hands-on experiences. Stevenson also noted the growing job opportunities in 3D printing as industries increasingly adopt the technology for faster production processes.

Among the participants were a mother and daughter aiming to enhance their understanding of 3D printing alongside their home education efforts. "We thought learning how to create her own things could expand on what we’re doing in homeschool and for other projects," explained Rae Ann Streyle.

Library manager Mary Frances Reutzel highlighted the increasing interest in 3D printing across all age groups. She believes that if someone can imagine it, they can likely model it with the right support and resources provided at the library.

Reutzel stated, “This is an absolute gift to people in the community… We’ve got free resources available online, minds here that can guide you, and machines ready to bring your ideas to life.”

The library plans to continue offering 3D printing classes throughout the year, catering to anyone interested in exploring this creative outlet.
