Aurora Labs and Innovaero have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to integrate Aurora Labs’ 3D-printed metal components and micro gas turbines into Innovaero’s unmanned aerial systems (UAS) platforms.
The collaboration leverages Aurora Labs’ recently tested 200 Class micro gas turbine, which produces 22kg of thrust at full throttle, and Innovaero’s expertise in UAS development. Innovaero, a joint venture between Aerovation Technologies and BAE Systems Australia, is known for its OWL loitering munitions and advanced camera systems.
“This is an exciting opportunity for Innovaero to collaborate with A3D to explore a range of possible solutions for micro-turbine propulsion in real-world applications,” said Innovaero Co-Managing Director Mike von Bertouch. Additionally, this partnership may open pathways for future aerospace applications using Aurora Labs’ unique additive manufacturing processes.
The MoU facilitates the exchange of information on printing and aerospace technologies, aiming to assess and improve the performance, reliability, and productivity of 3D-printed parts for UASs. Both companies will also collaborate on enhancing Aurora Labs’ Micro Gas Turbine propulsion system.
Aurora Labs CEO Rebekah Letheby stated, “The application of Aurora Labs’ 3D metal printing technology to various UAS platforms presents a significant opportunity to accelerate the development and market introduction of quality UAS components and micro gas turbine propulsion systems.”
This partnership marks a significant step in advancing the capabilities of defence drones through innovative 3D printing technology.
