Unleashing Creativity: How Portage Youth Hub is Inspiring Innovation through 3D Printing Programs

The Portage Youth Hub has gained popularity since its inception nearly six months ago, creating a supportive space for young people aged 15 to 29. This facility offers a range of free programming and mental health support, with activities available from Tuesday to Saturday at the main site and select off-site locations.

Programming at the hub includes various creative opportunities, such as 3D printing, industrial sewing, and crafting with Cricut machines. On Thursdays, the programs are hosted at Red River College, enhancing accessibility to advanced tools. The executive director, Mari Kozar, highlights the active engagement of youth through the hub’s weekly calendar, ensuring diverse activities for attendees.

In addition to creative activities, the Portage Youth Hub collaborates with organizations like Youth for Christ, reaching out to local youth in informal settings such as skate parks. This initiative includes providing refreshments and fostering social connections among the participants.

The hub also places significant focus on mental health, offering on-site wellness counseling. Youth can access various support services related to mental health, housing, and food security. Wellness counselor Rachel Hennan emphasizes the importance of building relationships and helping young people set goals to address their mental health challenges.

The team behind the Portage Youth Hub comprises wellness counselors, cultural facilitators, and program staff, all dedicated to supporting the local youth community. The services provided are entirely free, showcasing the Hub’s commitment to inclusive youth engagement.
