SCG-CPAC, a top cement and building materials firm, has partnered with Samsung to advance the Thai construction sector. On August 21, 2024, they agreed on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at pushing forward the development and commercial use of 3D printing technology and special cement materials on a global scale. The MoU signing happened at the SCG Headquarters in Bangkok.
The ceremony saw the MoU signed by Mr. Thammasak Sethaudom, President & CEO of SCG, and Mr. Surachai Nimlaor, President of SCG Cement and Green Solution Business, along with Mr. Hong Namkoong, President and CEO of Samsung E&A Co., Ltd., and Mr. Dong Hyun Kim, Executive Vice President Engineering Technology Division of Samsung E&A Co., Ltd. Their alliance aims to propel sustainable construction practices through innovative and high-tech solutions.
Key to this partnership is advancing 3D printing in construction, addressing efficiency, minimizing errors, and slashing waste. This modern method responds to the skilled labor shortage, potentially accelerating timelines and cutting down costs traditionally seen. The MoU also commits to collaborative research in material science and machinery and fostering mutual learning in 3D construction technologies and specialized cement materials.
Samsung E&A has committed to utilizing 350 tons of their proprietary 3D printing mortar, recognized for its intricate design capabilities and superior strength, for a building project in Saudi Arabia. CPAC will contribute to this initiative by offering technological, engineering, and project evaluation consultancy to maintain the highest standards in design and aesthetics.
