Steamforged Games is reviving the beloved miniature wargame Warmachine by reintroducing three legendary factions: the Infernals, Grymkin, and Convergence of Cyriss. These factions, long out of print, will be made available via a 3D printing campaign on MyMiniFactory, before eventually reaching retail stores.
According to Steamforged, these factions have been highly sought after by players and were central to some of the most iconic moments in the lore of the Iron Kingdoms. The re-release will feature complete army collections for all three factions and will include cost-effective "30-point Command Starter sets" for newcomers without existing models.
Not only are familiar models making a comeback, but Steamforged has hinted at the arrival of new miniatures, having reworked several designs and even added brand new ones. Steamforged’s CEO, Rich Loxam, emphasized the importance of 3D printing for the future of Warmachine, recognizing the growing trend in the hobby gaming community.
Thanks to the free Warmachine rules app, players will be able to utilize the newly printed factions immediately, with lore content available to enrich the gameplay experience. However, these factions will not be merging into the current storyline of Warmachine.
The initial return of the Infernals had been planned since their original launch by Privateer Press in 2019. Conversely, the Grymkin and Convergence factions were unexpected releases. This initiative aligns with Steamforged’s broader strategy to reintroduce older armies now classified as ‘Armies of Legend’ since the company’s re-launch of Warmachine MkIV in 2023.
The revamped factions will first be available at a discounted price through the "Lost, Damned & Salvation" crowdfunding campaign on MyMiniFactory. They will subsequently be offered as digital STL files and eventually as physical kits.
While a specific launch date for the campaign has not been announced, more details are promised to follow soon. For long-time Warmachine fans contemplating a return, the chance to print your own miniatures could be a compelling reason to dive back into this competitive wargaming landscape.
